Scan QR and Barcode - Ionic Forum

If you're looking to scan barcodes and QR codes using Ionic, two prominent Capacitor plugins are available:

To explore further, please visit our website Qr Scanner Module.

The primary difference between these plugins lies in the SDK used for barcode recognition. The Capacitor Community Barcode Scanner plugin employs the ZXing decoder, whereas the Capacitor ML Kit Barcode Scanning plugin uses Google’s ML Kit.

Both plugins are compatible only with the latest Capacitor version (4+).

Disclaimer: I am the maintainer of the second plugin.

Module Size Setting Tips | QRcode.com

Guidelines for Determining Module Size

After selecting a symbol version, the actual QR Code symbol's size depends on the millimeter size of the printed module (one square unit of the QR Code).

The bigger the module, the more stable and easier it is to read with a QR code scanner. However, a larger QR Code symbol demands a bigger printing area. Therefore, determine the module size for each application after considering all relevant factors and aim to print QR Code symbols as large as possible within the available space.

Printer Head Density and Module Size

Details available Handheld Android Scanner for more information.

Printer Density 4-dot Configuration 5-dot Configuration 6-dot Configuration
Laser 600dpi (24dot/mm) 0.17mm 0.21mm 0.25mm
360dpi (14dot/mm) 0.28mm 0.35mm 0.42mm
Thermal 300dpi (12dot/mm) 0.33mm 0.42mm 0.5mm
200dpi (8dot/mm) 0.5mm 0.63mm 0.75mm

* Dot: Minimum picture element making up a rendered image, expressed in dpi (dots/inch).

The module size of a thermal printer depends on the printer head's dot number. More dots improve print quality by addressing issues like width fluctuations, axis distortion, and blurring.

For stable printing operations, each module ideally consists of 4 or more dots, as recommended by DENSO WAVE.

Scanners and Readable Module Sizes

Scanner Type Resolution
High Resolution Type BHT-800Q Series (0.2mm)
GT20QD-SM (0.1mm)
Standard Type BHT-710QWB-CE (0.25mm)
BHT-600Q Series
QK20 Series
AT10Q-SM/SB
Camera Type QD25 (variable by lens)
Decode Software QRdeCODE (variable by iPhone)

The scanner's resolution dictates the smallest module size it can read. For example, a QR Code symbol printed with a 600dpi, 4-dot printer results in a module size of 0.17mm, requiring a scanner resolution below 0.17mm to read it effectively.

Printing small QR Codes in limited areas with high-density printers is futile if the scanner’s resolution is exceeded. Evaluate the scanner before determining module size to avoid readability issues.
