I've never burned threads that way, but I'm guessing the plastic holder would be threaded with a pitch to match the 'trode, and then he locked the ram so it couldn't retract while the 'trode was engaged in the threads, and then slowly manually twisted the 'trode into the work. The threads in the plastic holder let you screw the electrode right in at the correct pitch. I'm surprized it can be done in 15 min., I would've guessed longer. I'm still trying to figure out how the copper power wire doesn't get twisted up as you screw the electrode in? Maybe it just has a contact on the end of the electrode?
I've burned threads for bolts in many mold cavities by carbiding a tap drill hole, and then running an undersized threaded electrode of the right pitch down to the bottom of the hole, and orbiting it out to the major diameter you want minus the overburn. Kinda slow, and on a real coarse thread, you don't get a true thread form. One side of the thread gets burned away funny due to the helix of the thread. Good enough for bolts though. That's why it can be hard to mold plastic parts with coarse external threads unless you build an unscrewing mold. Simply burning threads into 2 slides will give you parting line mismatch of the thread form where they meet up. On fine threads you can hardly see it.
