I share a similar inquiry as the original poster. Currently, I utilize a homemade e-bike equipped with a mid-drive motor for my daily commuting, but I'm now exploring various electric scooters.

My primary concern revolves around the VIN, title, and certificate of origin because it's essential for me to have the ability to license the vehicle.

I've been investigating a few models, such as:

• CSC Monterey Electric Scooter
• Zoom
• ZEV (though this one is a bit pricier than what I'm willing to spend; at that price, I would consider the electric Vespa)
• Flux EM1

Has anyone had experience registering any of these or can suggest similar models?

I'm also considering the Vespa Elettrica. Although it comes at a higher cost, I believe its durability will justify the price.

While CSC may not hold the same prominence as Vespa, they are well-established as an importer of Chinese scooters and motorcycles in the USA. I would not expect any issues registering a bike from them. Furthermore, they offer a model very much like the Flux, making them a good option if you prefer that design.

The Zoom appears to be a copy of a more reputable brand, NIU, known for their quality products. Notably, NIU supplies scooters to the Revel rideshare fleet, proving their durability relative to price. I would suggest going with the original brand, and there are US dealers, including Scooter Stop as a possibility. You can check out their offerings here.

There are an abundance of choices for street legal electric two-wheelers in the USA. In my perspective, the Surron available at BestBuy offers outstanding value for money. However, I wouldn't consider it for myself since it occupies a middle ground between a bike and motorcycle, which could appeal to certain buyers. It boasts solid aesthetic looks and remarkable upgrade possibilities, potentially leading you into a higher price range similar to Emoto. Alternatively, you might want to look at the Ninebot C80, also accessible via BestBuy, which resembles a bike but with enhanced features. Additionally, Vadim from PowerVelocity.com has managed to install 9kwh into a CSC Egrom, which I recommend acquiring from QS Motors.

That said, it has been asserted that some higher-powered e-bikes like the Surron may not be immediately street legal, meaning they aren't titled and registered for the road right out of the box. However, many users have successfully made modifications to achieve road legality, though such modifications can be more complex and depend on individual state regulations.

A user in SW Kansas recounted their discussions with a state inspector, who voiced his reluctance to approve scooters from China for street use. This raises concerns for those interested in acquiring higher-powered e-bikes that do not conform to existing definitions. Furthermore, I appreciate the peace of mind in not worrying about potential citations for improper riding or concerns over mechanical reliability on rough roads.
