5 Things to Know Before Buying Industrial Hoses Fittings Source Factory

Thinking of getting hydraulic hose crimping machine/fittings ...

I want to completely re-hose one of our forklifts, and figure the cost of that might be enough to justify putting the money into a crimper and assortment of fittings/hose. I don't think it will be cost saving at the volumes I do over a year, but the added ability to make a hose at anytime seems well worth the trouble. Also being able to change a machine over 1 hose at a time rather than pulling/capping/marking a dozen hoses to drive over to the hose store. etc.

It would be great to hear from anyone who makes hoses. Other than hose, end fittings, and a machine..am I not thinking about any major space or cost factors involved? I feel like 3 hose sizes and 4-5 different style fittings for each would have made 90% of the hoses I have ever needed. Here is a picture showing a similar sized setup I think to the amount of stuff I am looking at adding, though I would keep mine more compact and stored away. Thoughts? thanks

Hydraulic hose and fitting Mix and Match?

Most any manufacturer of fittings can tell you what the gage depth should be to crimp their fittings on their hose with a crimper made by someone else. You can mix hose A and fitting B as long as both are the same type hose, in MOST instances. To do this you need to have manufacturers catalogs on all components you're using, mainly for use in comparing OD and ID of your hose vs the OD and ID of the hose thats specified to work with the fitting brand you have.

We've got an Imperial Eastman crimper that will handle hose up thru 2" ID and a Gates that maxes out at 1 1/4". Over the years I can safely say we've crimped about every brand of fitting onto every other brand of hose with no problems. This is based on using standard hose, usually 2 wire but some 4 wire for higher pressures, but not on the use of hose with any special jacket or hose which requires skiving for fitting installation.

I'd leave Tractor Supply's fittings alone unless they have full crimping data available for them. From what I've seen, you can buy major brand stuff as cheap as you can buy the no-name stuff TS stocks, and often cheaper, if you buy from the right sources. When we were buying hose and fittings regularly in maintaining our cranes, we'd typically pay $4 to $4.50 for a fitting with a list price of $15, regardless of whether it was a Gates, Eastman, Weatherhead, or whatever. The same sorts of quantity discounts are generally available on bulk hose too.
