Slurry pumps are used to transport solid-liquid mixtures (slurry, mud) with higher concentrations during mineral processing. Such pumps include sludge pumps, mud pumps, impurity pumps, dredging pumps, dredging pumps, desulfurization pumps, submersible pumps, etc.

What are slurry pumps used for?
Slurry pumps are one of the indispensable equipment in various processes such as mineral processing, coal preparation, desulfurization, and filter press feeding. For example, our company's pumps are often supplied to internationally renowned mineral processing plants of gold, copper, zinc ore, etc. In a word, slurry pumps play an important role in transporting slurry in the mineral processing process.
Slurry pumps are must-have equipment for mineral processing plants
Why does the slurry pump’s shalf need to be sealed well?
The transportation of ore slurry has strict requirements on the sealing performance of the pumps. Since the slurry delivered by the slurry pump may be corrosive and can easily corrode operators and equipment, the slurry's inner shaft must be sealed well.
If the slurry pump seal is not good, it will cause the slurry to leak in the pump's shaft. Serious consequences include: after the fluid enters the pump's bearing, it will dilute and change the quality of the lubricating oil, aggravate bearing wear, cause vibration, and shorten the pump and accessories' lifetime. Therefore, the pump must maintain a good sealing state when we use it, said the engineer Mr. Wang.
Three Types of Shaft Sealing of Slurry Pumps
The shaft seals of slurry pumps generally include three types: Packing sealing, Empeller sealing and Mechanical sealing.
We will explain the comparison of the 3 different sealing types as follows.
(1). Packing Sealing
First of all, packing sealing is the most common sealing method among the three types. The Packings (generally made of materials PTFE) which are put in the Packing Box are in full contact with the pump's shaft, and by injecting Shaft Seal Water, a certain pressure of water is continuously injected into the filler to prevent the transmission from leaking, thereby to achieve the purpose of sealing. The pressure of the Shaft Seal Water must exceed the outlet pressure by 1.5 kg.
Packings (PTFE material)
When transporting corrosive materials, the packing may be corroded, so the disadvantage of this sealing form is that it cannot transport toxic and corrosive liquids. The packing shaft seal has a simple structure, is easy to maintain, and comes with lower cost. This sealing method is widely used in mineral processing plants and coal washing plants. The advantages are its convenience, simplicity for maintenance and low cost.
(2). Empeller Sealing
The empeller sealing of the slurry pump relies on the empeller to generate a reverse centrifugal force to prevent the slurry from leaking, thus achieving a sealing effect.
The empeller seal requires that the backflow pressure of the slurry pump does not exceed 15% of the outlet pressure of the slurry pump. The empeller shaft seal has the advantages of no need for shaft seal water, no dilution of the slurry, and good sealing effect. Therefore, when the slurry does not allow dilution, or when there is no flushing water at operation site, this empeller sealing type can be considered.
(3). Mechanical Sealing
The Mechanical Sealing includes a moving ring and a stationary ring that are in close contact with each other in the axial direction through springs to achieve the purpose of sealing. Mechanical seals are generally divided into single-end mechanical seals and double-end mechanical seals. The mechanical sealing is very reliable and almost does not leak even a tinny drip of slurry. However, care should be taken to protect the friction surface during its installation.
Mechanical Sealing
The mechanical sealing's requirements are high, the cost is higher than packing sealing and empeller sealing, and the maintenance work is relatively more difficult than the other two shaft seaing methods.

Rubber lined Slurry Pump Manufacturer
Motor
The motor is the source of the mechanical power to run the pump. The type of electric motor that is mostly employed in the rubber-lined slurry pump is a two-pole, three-phase squirrel-cage induction motor. This type of motor can operate with a wide range of currents and voltages.
Impeller
The impeller is the main rotating part of the rubber-lined slurry pump. The main function of the impeller is to displace the fluid through the pump when it rotates. The impeller is designed with blades that help to impart kinetic energy and to increase the velocity of the pumped fluid. The number of impellers in a pump equals the number of pump stages. The rubber-lined slurry pump’s impeller consists of pressure-molded elastomer liners. Rubber-lined slurry pump manufacturers group impellers based on the constructional geometry, the type of suction, and the direction of flow. Pump impellers are usually manufactured from cast steel and close-grained cast iron.
Shaft
The purpose of the shaft is to transfer mechanical torques from the motor to the impeller during pump operation. The pump shaft is usually coupled with the electric motor. Rubber-lined slurry pump manufacturers create pump shafts from stainless steel and carbon steel. These materials are preferred because they enhance the shaft’s ability to overcome heavy loads and vibrations during the pump operation.
Bearings
The bearings carry the shaft and the impeller and ensure they align correctly with the fixed ends under the action of radial and axial forces. Bearings also serve to reduce the friction between the rotating shaft and the stator and contain the relative motion of the rotor assembly.
Intake and outlet section
The intake section is the suction manifold and it supplies the pumping fluid to the impeller eye. In applications with low bottom pressure, the pumped fluid may contain a significant amount of gases that can damage the pump. In such applications, a gas separator replaces the intake section to separate the gas from the fluid when it enters the pump. The outlet section allows the pumped fluid out of the pump and into the delivery pipes.
Rubber Liner
Rubber-lined slurry pump features a two-part elastomer liner that is designed to protect the casing and impeller from extended wear caused by abrasive and corrosive material while improving performance.
Diamond-Core Mechanical Seal
The diamond core mechanical seals enhance the pump performance by preventing leakage of pumped fluid from the pump. It also enhances the efficiency in handling high-temperature and highly corrosive medium.
